Dental Bridges

Serving Bethesda, Clarksville
and the Greater Maryland area

Dental bridges are a permanent replacement option for missing teeth. They are attached to the adjacent teeth, preventing the teeth from drifting out of position.

Our quality dental bridges are fabricated from specially formulated dental porcelain material, which is secured to adjacent teeth.

Benefits of dental bridges

Dental bridges serve a number of purposes, including:

  • Replacement of the biting surface of the teeth
  • Stabilization of adjacent teeth
  • Enhances your smile

When a tooth is missing, the space can cause a variety of problems, including shifting of the teeth on either side of the missing tooth; separation of the opposing teeth; and difficulty with the bite caused by the loss of biting surface. In many cases, too, a missing tooth can cause the temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, to become misaligned, a condition referred to as TMD.

Limitations of dental bridges

While dental bridges are an excellent option for permanent tooth replacement, they do include some drawbacks, including the following:

  • Dental bridges do not replace the tooth root, as dental implants do
  • Dental bridges require modifications to adjacent teeth
  • In some cases, dental bridges may not sufficiently maintain the proper alignment of the jaw
  • Dental bridges can sometimes have limited applicability for placement

Alternative tooth replacement options

The two primary tooth replacement options in addition to bridges include:

  • Dental implants—A permanent, full tooth replacement option, dental implants provide the most complete and natural looking solution for tooth replacement.
  • Full or partial dentures—Dentures, either full or partial, offer a minimally invasive tooth replacement option for the visible or upper portion of the tooth. Unlike dental bridges, dentures are removable.
